The Better Mousetrap

"Build the better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door."

This is another of the contract illustrations I had drawn for my clip art and drawing tool site. Conceptually, it's a bit of an homage to old Warner Brothers cartoons. But really, what's the one thing men want more than food... besides a big screen TV?

It's funny because it's true, but it's also sort of sick because it's true.

And Give Up Show Business?

So, when I was building my clip art and drawing tool site, besides getting lots of free public domain clip art from The Open Clip Art Library, I also had some created specially for the site.

Some of it is just boring and normal, or even extremely cute clip art, but my twisted side couldn't help but come out here and there.

There's an old joke about a young man who bitches and moans day in and day out about his job, which is cleaning up elephant poop at the circus. When someone suggests he quit, the young man is shocked: "And give up show business?!?"

So, for a piece of clip art (yes it's available as free clip art - for personal use only), I paid one of my contract artists to draw a man following an elephant around.

Now the cool thing is that the t-shirt you see above is customizeable. You can switch to a black tee instead of white, change the font of "My Job" or change the text. That's one of the reasons I've been building out my Zazzle T-shirt gallery. Instead of having to make 85 products to cover the different t-shirt styles and variations available (as I have to do at CafePress), I can create one t-shirt at Zazzle, then users can change the shirt color, shirt style, and even customize the shirt with more text or images if I allow it.

So the image... guy following behind an elephant with clean-up tools... smiling. Funny, but a little sick. And you're welcome to create your own caption.

Funny But Sick Is Reborn

When I moved servers recently, I decided not to go to the effort of moving "Funny But Sick". It had turned into a place where I catalogued trite humor I found on Usenet, trying to get traffic for Google AdSense ads (which pay next to nothing on humor sites).

I'm not completely giving up on it. And, as the image above shows, I'm still creating sick humor, but I've decided to just do it for fun and not for traffic, not post anything I didn't come up with, and let Google worry about the content management system.

So here's my first post of the new "Funny But Sick". More soon...
